Three

It's been a bit of a rough week here in the Iaco house...

It started with Jackson waking up the day before Thankgiving with what sounded like croup.  He had a fever, too.  We were immediately blacklisted from all Thanksgiving festivities the next day.  He still had a croupy cough the next day, and by Friday he was still coughing (but it didn't sound croupy, just more like a regular cough).

Friday also brought a new problem: diarrhea.  Poor kid was a mess.  He doesn't often have intestinal troubles, but when he does, there's sure to be a diaper rash that accompanies it.  Usually, some sort of zinc oxide medication (like Desitin) works wonders on his little bum, but this time, nothing was giving him any relief and by Sunday, it was a full-blown catastrophe.  I made 3 trips to Walgreens on Sunday trying to find something to help him.  It was later that we realized he likely had a yeast infection.

I took him to the doctor on Monday and a yeast infection was confirmed.  By that point, we had started putting an antifungal on him and were told to continue that.  It was working, but not very well.  That night, I had a friend with a lot of experience in yeast infections in little ones give me a concoction of medications (mix 1 part each of antifungal cream, Vaseline, and Desitin, and smear it on him like frosting).  Within 24 hours, that infection looked so much better!

Just when we thought he was on the path to recovery, yesterday (Tues), he developed a fever again in the morning.  It was gone in the evening, but still left us discouraged.

With all this going on, Jackson's sleep patterns went haywire.  He was waking up multiple time in the middle of the night looking for comfort.  It's now 5am and he's been sleeping all night--the first all-nighter in about 3-4 nights!  YAY!

His birthday party is on Sunday, and I'm confident he'll be healthy by that time (not sure about what he'll be eating as I've had him on a very strict BRAT diet for the past 3 days).  I've developed a cold as well (and why not?) but I'm fighting it with every drug in my arsenal.  Gotta be healthy for the big day!  Plus, I'm doing all the cooking, so I have no choice but to be healthy.

Keeping all fingers crossed.....

2 Weeks

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I last posted anything.  GAH.  These days are flying by, which I guess is good considering how much I loathe winter.  Get me to spring/summer NOW!

We're a mere 2 weeks away from Jackson's birthday party!  We made the decision to do the cooking ourselves--probably shooting ourselves in the foot, but we have the whole day before to get stuff ready.  It'll be crazy, that's for sure!

Halloween was fun!!  Paul came home from work a little early and we headed out.  Jackson was a little freaked out with a house across the street that was playing (or BLARING) some ominous Halloween music, but he still went over there for a snack.  We met up with some older neighborhood kids, including our summer helpers Ana and Trace, and Jackson held Trace's hand the whole time.  At one point, we passed a group of Trace's friends, and I asked him if he wanted to go along with them.  His response was, "Nope, this is WAY more fun!"  It was so sweet!  We went to all the houses on our street and that was enough!  Jackson pretty much enjoyed just ringing doorbells and talking to people.  We tried to get him to say Trick or treat and Thank you, but he wasn't really getting it.

Jackson had his preschool evaluation last week.  I had talked it up a bit before we went, which might have stressed him out because the first 20 minutes were spent trying to calm him (I stayed out of the room).  Now, in his defense, he walked into a room full of toys and 3 strange adults, so that didn't help.  After that crying period though, he did everything that was asked of him, including sitting through a hearing screening.  We'll find out on the 29th what the results are when we go to a meeting at the preschool.  His speech therapist will also be there as his advocate.

Thanksgiving this year will be at my mom's.  It'll be quite a big crowd, including my brother's in-laws.  Should be a lot of fun!

Go eat some turkey!
